Meet Our Football Coaching Staff
My name is Steven Warren and I am the President of Lynnwood Youth Sports Association (Lynnwood Royals Football & Basketball Feeder Program).
The Lynnwood Youth Sports Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing structured sports programs for youth in the Lynnwood area. We are a “High School Feeder” model in which our organization is committed to providing an opportunity for every youth participant, ages 5-14 to learn team play, while focusing on community participation and working closely with our local high school programs. With more than 250 children enrolled in our programs, it's more important than ever that L.Y.S.A. provide teams and groups for children seeking a healthy, active lifestyle.
We are a non-profit strictly volunteer organization. For a locally funded all volunteer organization, we are extremely proud of the fact that we have been able to build a program that is inclusive for both boys and girls in the area.
We have only been able to build Lynnwood Youth Sports thanks to the support of the local community. The support of businesses has allowed us to offer scholarship opportunities to families in need to assure that every child has an opportunity to participate. Our prices are one of the lowest in the area. Again, this can only happen with the support of the community.
Lynnwood Youth Sports Association
I became a huge Lynnwood Tigers fan several years ago when our oldest son began playing for Jason Corcoran on his 89ers team. My husband and I could tell right away that there was something special about this organization. In 2012, my family gracefully took over Lynnwood Youth Sports Association. I am a woman of many hats, but I specifically run the administrative side to L.Y.S.A. The importance of this organization is beyond words. We have amazing families involved who will treat you and your child as their own. It takes a community to raise a child, and we are pushing and fighting to make our community solid.
Hi my name is Kevin Massey, I have been coaching football for 24 years, 20 of those years as head coach. I have won 13 championships and been in the championships 17 times. I coached varsity football at Tyee High School as a Defensive and Offensive caller. We made the playoffs all 4 years I was there. I have coached basketball and baseball for 22 years and won many championships in both.
But what I'm proud of the most is not all my championships, but the relationships I have with the kids. A lot of kids don't have a father figure. That's why I started coaching in the first place, because I know how it is growing up without a father. The kids that I have coached know they can always come to me if they need help!! Another thing I'm proud of is out of all the years I have coached, I only had 4 kids quit my team. I encourage kids to do good in school and stay in school.
Now a little bit about me. I have been a single father of 3 kids. I have 2 boys and 1 girl. I have raised them by myself for 18 years. All three of them have graduated! My last one graduated this year. I'm a very proud father, I have a big heart and I coach with a very big heart.
My favorite saying is ON TIME IS LATE AND EARLY IS ON TIME!!!!
Sports has been an integral part of Coach Mike's life. He grew up playing baseball, basketball, soccer, football, and any other sport available in the area. Coach Mike grew up in the small town of Ocean Shores where he excelled in both sports and academics. Coach Mike strongly believes that organized youth sports helps teach young athletes life lessons and gives them memories that they will cherish for life. Coach Mike has a Daughter who enjoys Basketball and Softball and a Son who enjoys Baseball, Basketball, and Football. Mike has coached basketball, baseball, and football for several years and enjoys working with the kids and seeing the development and improvement from the beginning of each season to the end. Some of Coach Mike's proudest moments are seeing these young athletes grow and develop a sense of self-confidence and accomplishment through youth sports. "Sports has opened a lot of doors and created a lot of opportunities for me in my life. I strongly believe youth sports and the positive role models that volunteered to coach my youth sports made me into the person I am today. I do not know of a better way to give back than to teach and coach our youth and contribute to their growth and success for years to come." When not coaching Coach Mike enjoys fishing, golfing and of course watching Sports of TV!
Hi, my name is Courtni Kenyon-George and I am the Youth Cheer Director for the Lynnwood Youth Sports Association, and I am currently one of 2 coaches for the Jr. Royals Cheer Squad!
I have been involved with the LYSA family for 3 years as a team coordinator for my sons feeder football and basketball teams. Additionally, I assisted the previous cheer coaches for one year prior to taking over the coaching and director responsibilities in the 2014-2015 feeder football season.
My goal for the LYSA Jr. Royals Cheerleaders is to be an advocate for girls of all ages who would like to try new things and face their fears while having fun and building relationships in a team environment! I want every cheerleader to feel confident and empowered, and that they are part of something special. I intend to grow and prepare each cheerleader for high school level tryouts, to teach our girls to safely execute stunts, and to set positive examples to our cheerleaders while showing them what being active, positive members of our community is about.
In my free time I like to … what free time?? 🙂
